History of KARNIVAL KREWE DE LOUISIANE

Formed in 1987 by a group of individuals who cared deeply about those destined to be faced with cancer and a shared passion for the Mardi Gras tradition that is so prevalent in our South Louisiana culture, Governor’s Mardi Gras Charity Ball Association, Inc. and Karnival Krewe de Louisiane, Inc. was conceived. The two later merged to form one unit, Karnival Krewe de Louisiane, a non-profit corporation organized under IRS Tax Code 501(c)3.

With great insight, the founding group created one of the strongest volunteer-driven, philanthropic organizations in our community, by combining a strong commitment to raise awareness and money to assist in the struggle against cancer with the fun and frivolity of the Carnival season.

To date, the Krewe has contributed more than $5.3 million to support Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s mission to improve survivorship and lessen the burden of cancer.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is a regional cancer care organization that has been fighting cancer for more than 50 years. Mary Bird Perkins has strategic partnerships with OneOncology and the largest radiation and medical oncology groups from across the area including exclusive partnerships with Southeastern Louisiana Radiation Oncology Group, which provides radiation therapy throughout Mary Bird Perkins’ service areas and Louisiana Hematology Oncology Associates, which services the Greater Baton Rouge area.
